A core role of the Inspector-General of Tax and Tax Ombudsman (IGTO) is to undertake systemic reviews of the tax and superannuation systems. The insights and recommendations from our reviews are designed to drive improvements in administration and integrity at system level.
The plan highlights a short list (suggested priority areas for review) and a longer list of potential options. We have developed these lists from consultation with stakeholders, analysis of trends in our complaints received and other academic research.
Our new approach to systematic reviews is to undertake more frequent, shorter, sharper, more focused reviews to ensure we maximise the impact of our insights and findings. We will ensure we adopt new, more agile consultation approaches to enable meaningful input from all stakeholders within our timeframes.
