Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT) Mr. Ali Noroozi today announced that Mr. Andrew McLoughlin had been appointed as his new Deputy.
“I am very pleased that Andrew is joining our team in the important position of my Deputy” Mr. Noroozi said. “Andrew is well qualified both academically and through his extensive corporate tax background to make a great contribution to the role of my office in improving tax administration.”
Andrew has held various senior corporate taxation positions. Most recently, he was Head of Tax globally for Allco Finance Group and Deputy Head of Tax Australia-New Zealand for Deutsche Bank. He has been a keen advocate for tax reform over many years through his active involvement with industry associations such as the Australian Financial Markets Association, Australian Securitisation Forum, Corporate Tax Association and Investment and Financial Services Association. These roles have provided Andrew with considerable experience in liaising with the Government and its agencies, namely the Tax Office and the Department of Treasury. Andrew also has a strong relationship network within the major professional taxation advisory services firms.
Andrew replaces Rick Matthews who is retiring as Deputy IGT. Mr. Matthews became Deputy IGT following an extensive career at senior levels in the Tax Office. Mr. Matthews was awarded a Public Service Medal for his major role in the implementation of the GST and was Deputy Commissioner at the ATO before joining the IGT in 2005.
“Rick Matthews has made a significant contribution to tax administration over many years, both at the Tax Office and here in the office of the IGT”, Mr. Noroozi said. “I wish to thank him personally for all his assistance to me particularly when I first took up the role of the IGT and I am sure many in the ATO and the broader tax community would join me in wishing him well in his retirement.”
